Walking on Logs Sculptures
Just beyond the Welcome sign, the Walking on Logs sculptures feature four bronze children balancing on logs — a joyful tribute to youth and movement by artist Phillip Levine. Installed in 1996, the sculptures have become a beloved West Seattle landmark and are often dressed in t-shirts from local community groups.
One statue was stolen in 2014 and never recovered, but the remaining figures continue to stand as a meaningful piece of public art and neighborhood pride.
Community Use
Nonprofit and community groups may request to decorate the sculptures for limited periods for a fee. All requests must be approved in advance by the West Seattle Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber reserves the right to refuse or remove any display at its discretion.
Welcome to West Seattle Sign
Installed in 1996, the Welcome to West Seattle sign is a signature landmark along the Fauntleroy Expressway. It was the vision of West Seattle community advocate Earl Cruzen, created in partnership with the West Seattle Chamber of Commerce.
In 2019, the original wooden sign was replaced with a more durable structure, funded by a $100,000 donation from Adah Rhodes Cruzen in memory of her husband, Earl. The update included a sustainable maintenance plan to ensure the sign remains a welcoming symbol for future generations.
After a traffic incident in 2023 caused significant damage, the sign was restored thanks to support from an anonymous donor and coordination by the Chamber.
Please note:Â No signage or materials may be posted at or near the Welcome to West Seattle sign at any time.
